What is Wildcrafted? How do we gather our herbs?

Siberian Herbs uses only plants gathered in natural conditions of their growth. This method of gathering herbs is called Wildcrafting or Wild Harvesting. The same gathering method of herbs, roots, fruits, which our ancestors have been doing for years. The unique nature of the herbs which have grown uncultivated – in natural conditions of their growth, without external stimulation, means that – such plants have undergone a natural selection – only the most resilient, strong plants, rich in nutrients and active components survived.

Quality wild-harvesting has vital requirements:

1. The time of gathering has to be right with the time of maximum accumulation of valuable nutritive and biologically active substances in the plant. If gathered prematurely, plant stock absolutely can’t be used for therapeutic purposes.

2. Since ancient times, healers and herbalists, who have been healing people, have been working on the calendar of gathering medicinal herbs. We use this calendar to pick our herbs at the stage when they contain the most nutrients to provide you with the best product!

3. The area where you harvest your herbs. When wild harvesting you must ensure that you only pick herbs in ecologically clean places. This why we only source our herbs from the Altai Region, the cleanest and purest place in Russia.

4. Not to over pick to ensure that there are plants to harvest for next year. We ensure that we gather our herbs in quantities that do not damage the herb population and always plant extra seeds left over from the last harvest.

While gathering plants you must obey this rule like a mantra: Gathered plant stock should be used or passed to drying as soon as possible.

The grass, which has stayed in the basket for more than 3-4 hours, sets up and gets self-heated. Vitamins and other biologically active components get destroyed and lose their useful properties. Therefore, plants require a significant level of attention at all stages, from picking and drying to packaging and delivery of the product.

In rare occasions when we have to work with external suppliers, we only work with suppliers from Altai region to ensure we get the most powerful and cleanest herbs that were hand-picked by knowledgeable herbalist at the right season.
